Transition

This speaks to me on a spiritual level.

For as long as I remember, and even now, I have been watching animé.

I can still remember it clearly. I was in first grade and my classmates were talking about this ‘cartoon’ on Channel 5 that is really good. I wasn’t part of the conversation but I was curious so I turned on the TV and watched whatever show that was on on that certain time and date (if I am not mistaken, it’s at 6:30pm every Saturday).

It was Sailormoon.

I’d say that Sailormoon was my first animé that’s why I’m so attached to it.

So I’ve been watching animé for over a decade until in 2009, when I visited the Philippines, my friend showed me this You Are Beautiful parody of SNSD’s Genie. I watch Korean dramas, sure, but when it comes to music, I only know BoA’s Korean songs. So when my friend told me that SNSD was the ‘it’ group in Korea at the time, it kinda got stuck to my mind.

And then fast forward to 2010. My friends and I decided to watch SM Town in CA because BoA and TVXQ. I really don’t know anybody there to be honest so I wasn’t too focused on anything else (WHAT A BIG MISTAKE!!! HAD I KNOWN!!!).

So we got there early of course. And before the show, there were a couple of games and meet up so we went to watch a game. It was an aegyo game. At the time, I didn’t have the slightest idea about it, but I enjoyed it! So when I got home, I went on youtube and researched more about it.

The first video was Sunny’s aegyo.

Before I know it, I watched clip after clip after clip of these awesome Korean fan videos and started learning about Korean shows and knowing more about SNSD and that led to another and poof! Now, I’m a K-pop fan.

I think being a fan of animé will ultimately lead you to be a fan of K-pop. It feels real connected in some cosmic way. Haha!

So, there you go.

  1. Funny enough I was into anime before I got into Kpop myself. Lol

  2. I definitely resonate with what you said. I am also originally a fan of anime (and jpop), then through the connections like BoA’s music, I got into Kpop. XD

    • Omg! We walked the same road to being a K-pop fan! Because of animé, I like J-pop. And because I like J-pop, it was only a matter of time to like K-pop! Haha! I laveeet!
