Books vs E-books

In Everyday,Fandom,Fun,Life,review on September 25, 2018 by lexie-chan Tagged: , , , , , , , ,

I started liking reading books when I was in grade school, a lifetime ago, where the idea of e-books have never even been conceived, I’m sure.

So you could say that I grew up with them. The crisp pages and that distinct smell of a new book… the exhilarating feeling every time you turn a page… it’s such an experience!

And although I buy used books nowadays, the feeling is the same.

You could also say that I wasn’t much of an advocate of e-books when it first came out. It’s just… not the same. The intimate experience you share with a ‘real’ book will never be translated electronically so it took me a while to even start reading one from my i-pad.

I think it was only in 2016 that I read one as an e-book (Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, on the way to Florida, that summer). Kinda late in the game if you ask me.

Like I said, I still buy books but for some reason, e-books have started to have an undeniable appeal to me.

It just, happened.

I finally appreciate the convenience of it, it’s main selling point anyway. How you can carry multiple titles with just one gadget instead of stuffing your purse with thick books like I used to. I also appreciate the ease in looking up words with just a click of a finger. Before, I usually pack a separate dictionary in my purse, too coz I know it’s ‘handy’ whenever I look up unfamiliar words.

And the fact that it does not require for you to have your lights on to read a story is a plus plus plus! With an e-book, I can even go under the blanket in the total dark and still enjoy my novel.

IT’S JUST SO CONVENIENT! And I didn’t even list down all the other perks it has.

I know I’m losing all the personal touch reading an actual book but I can understand it more now why e-books are just so appealing. That said, I still wouldn’t stop buying books.

I’ll always will.

I still have this unparalleled satisfaction when I see shelves full of books so expect that that will never change. I guess I like having a physical and digital copy like my CDs. Haha! So since I can, I’ll just have both versions.

I’m a collector, through and through.
